Castleknock Hurling & Football Club would like to thank all our members, volunteers, players, mentors and committees for all their amazing efforts and commitment in 2015 in what was a fantastic year in the clubs history and development. We would also like to sincerely thank all our sponsors, supporters and all in the community who contributed to the club in any way in 2015. We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.  Together we can all look forward to the challenges of 2016 with great optimism and confidence.

 Lar Norton has been appointed Manager of our Division One Adult football team and we wish Lar, his team and the players every success. Congrats to our own Bairbre Ní Néill who was returned as Irish Language Officer for the Dublin County Board.

Very Best Wishes to Alan Brogan on his retirement from inter-county football. Alan kindly attended many functions on behalf of our juvenile section and has always been a great friend of the club.

Minor player Orán Ó Brien has returned for working with the poor of Calcutta and would sincerely like to thank all from the club who contributed to his fundraising which made his trip possible.

The annual Nursery Party took place on Saturday in Castleknock Community College and a great time was had by all. Sincere thanks to all the organisers and volunteers on the day.

Hard Luck to our U21 footballers who narrowly lost out in the Championship Final. Many thanks to the management and players for all their commitment. Many thanks also to the great Castleknock crowd in Russell Park for the final and congrats to St Brigids.

The Club Nursery (kindly Sponsored by Tigers after SchoolCare) is taking a Christmas rest and will be back in the New Year every Saturday morning on the all-weather in Somerton beside Castleknock Hotel from 10am-11:30am. The winefare organised by Bernard O’Keeffe in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital raised €8,345.00 well done to all involved. Also special mention to our u16 lads who raised €2,130.00 in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

Great win by our U21 footballers who had a great win in the Championship semi final over a gallant Plunketts side and we look forward to the final against St Brigids on Sunday at 11 in Russell Park. All Support Welcome!!

Mighty win for our second adult football team in the AFL6 promotion playoff final against a gallant Fingallians. Congrats to all the management and players and a sincere thank you for all their efforts and commitment. Three promotions from the adult footballers this year is some achievement! Hard luck to our Minor camogie team who lost out to Lucan in the Championship.

Strictly Castleknock was a resounding success and would not have been so without the unbelievable work of the committee, the dedication of the dancers, the support from sponsors and all those who volunteered and attended on the night. Special mention to our VIP judges Joan Burton T.D. and Leo Varadkar T.D. and special thanks to our main sponsors Copper Face Jacks and The Carpenter. Great win for our AFL6 team in their promotion playoff semi final away to Clontarf. Hard luck to our Minor B team who lost out to St Pats in their league final. Great day was had by all at the Hurlathon and well done to all who ensured we retained the Hurlathon Cup. Sincere thanks to Erin’s Isle for their brilliant hospitality.

Well done to all who participated in the Juvenile Awards and particularly those who put all the work in behind the scenes.

The club thanks the senior football management team led by Enda Murphy who have achieved promotion to AFL1 this year after winning the Intermediate Championship last year. After three excellent years with us gaining two league promotions and one championship the management team have decided to step down.The club are now looking for applications to manage and coach our Senior Football team in 2016. Big Congrats to our Adult Footballs who clinched the AFL Div 2 Title and promotion to Div 1. The hard work paid off lads well done and thanks to all involved. Great achievement for our U13 boys who retained their Div 1 title, great wins also for our U14 girls and u15 boys who both won their shield finals. Congrats and sincere thanks to all involved. Hard luck to our Intermediate Hurlers who lost out to St. Oliver Plunkett’s in the IHC Leinster playoff replay in Parnell Park on Wednesday night last. Good luck to Plunkett’s in Leinster. Our Senior Footballers have a massive league game this Wednesday evening in Somerton against Ballinteer St. John’s. Please come along and support Enda and the team as they aim for promotion in to Division 1. Throw in at 20:00. Well done to our Minor Footballers on producing a great performance to beat  Naomh Olaf in the Minor Championship quarter-final. Great weekend of Camogie action with our U16 girls completing a well-deserved league and championship double. Our U15’s won their shield final and hard luck to both our U13’s & U14’s who did the club proud in their finals, both only losing by the narrowest of margins. Castleknock Camogie is certainly on the up and sincere thanks to all the players and mentors involved and for all the hard work that has gone into our Camogie section. Our adult hurlers played  out a dramatic draw with Plunketts in the play-off to decide who represents Leinster in the Intermediate Championship. The reply is this Wednesday at 6:45 in Parnell Park. Your support would be very much appreciated. Our Minor footballers have their Championship Qtr Final on Sunday in Somerton. Some tickets remain for the Ultimate Ladies Nite Out which takes place this Thursday in the Castleknock Hotel. Massive congratulations to the Intermediate Hurlers who were crowned Dublin IHC Champions for 2015 with a great 0-15 to 0.09 victory over Naomh Mearnog on Sunday morning. Big thanks to all our members and supportors who supported the team during the campaign. A playoff will take place next weekend between Castleknock & Oliver Plunketts to see who plays in Leinster. Well done also to our Minor A footballers who topped their group in the B Championship after a great win over Barrog. The U14 football girls had a first ever win over Clontarf in the shield semi final football -well done girls! See details on the website of the Ultimate Ladies’ Night Out Fundraiser, happening in the Castleknock Hotel on the 22nd October. Congrats to our Adult Ladies Footballers who completed an amazing Double Double achievement with a cup final win over Westmanstown. Well done to all involved and many thanks to The Bell for subsequent hospitality. Congrats to our AFL10 Football Champions who received their trophy on Sunday, Hard Luck to our Adult B footballers who went down by the bear minimum in their Championship Final against Ballinteer. Good solid win by our Adult A footballers over Olaf’s in the Senior B Championship and this sets up a Quarter Final against Thomas Davis. Great win for our U16 Camogie girls in their Championship Semi Final against Ballinteer. Well done to all our teams involved in the ‘business end’ of the season and sincere thanks for all the efforts. Massive game this Wednesday in the Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Final when we play St. Judes on Wednesday in Somerton at 8:15. Great win for our Adult Hurlers in the Championship Reply against a gallant Isles team, next up for our hurlers is a Semi Final against Judes in Russell Park on Wed 7th Oct. Big Championship wins also for our U16’s and U14’s Camogie teams and our Minor footballers against Whitehall. First ever Senior Football Championship game for the club this Wednesday 30th against Lucan in Monastery Road Clondalkin at 19:30. We need a big crowd to support the lads so please make the effort and make the difference. Our Junior Footballers play their Championship Final against Ballinteer in O’Toole Park at 11am on this Sunday 4th Oct. Again please support the lads if you can. Hard luck to the Dublin Ladies Football Team who played so well in the All Ireland Final against Cork. Congratulations to Ciarán Kilkenny and the Dublin Senior Football Team on winning the All Ireland Football Final. Our Senior Footballers had a good win over St. Peregrines in the league on Saturday evening maintaining their position on top of the league table. The senior championship game against Lucan is scheduled for Wed 30th Sept. in Monastery Road at 19:30. This Saturday our Intermediate Hurlers play Erin’s Isle in the championship quarter final replay. Very successful week for the club with both our Ladies Footballers and our Second Mens Hurlers winning their leagues and gaining promotion. Congrats to all involved and sincere thanks to all the work that went into obtaining these achievements. Our Adult Footballers have a big league game just up the road against Peregrines on Saturday at 6. All support would be welcome. Very Best Wishes to Ciarán and the Dublin Footballers this weekend in the All Ireland Final. Dubs Abú! Dont forget to Decorate for the Dubs and get the Blue & Blue flags and bunting out! Our Annual Family Day takes place this Saturday in Somerton, everyone is welcome to enjoy a great day of activities and fun. Don’t forget to bring a friend! Fun starts at 10 with our nursery for 4 to 7 year olds. Please see web for a full schedule of activities, including draw for All Ireland Final tickets!!. Please check your house for any old Castleknock gear lying around as we will have a bring and buy stand for gear, hurls and helmets. Huge congratulations to our Division 10 footballers, who won the league at the weekend after a great win away to Cuala. The Division 6 team had a great win away to Bank of Ireland, while our Senior Footballers remain top of Division 2 after their draw away to Round Towers. Congrats to our U11 hurlers who won their Camaint final  against Lucan in Parnell Park.The Intermediate Hurling Championship replay has been fixed for this Saturday at 4pm away to Erin’s Isle. There was a draw after extra time in the Intermediate Hurling Championship on Saturday against Erin’s Isle. The lads battled really hard throughout, and details of the replay will be publicised when they are confirmed. Thanks to St Martins of Wexford who hosted our Minor Footballers. Also sincere thanks to all who organised and participated in this very enjoyable  weekend for the Minors. The club are delighted to be hosting Strictly Dancing Part 2 this November. Best of luck to Emma, Niamh and Anna may who line out for the Dubs in the U17 national football blitz on Tuesday. Congrats to Sinead, Lauren, Emma, Ellen and Cara who represented Castleknock on the Dublin U13 camogie development squad who played for the Dubs last Sunday. Our senior footballers are back in action this weekend, as they play Round Towers away in the League. Congrats to Ciarán and the Dublin Senior footballers on their win over a gallant Fermanagh also well done to the Dublin Senior Camogie team on their win over Clare. Congrats also to our seven Castleknock U16 Camogie Girls who represented Dublin on Sunday.  Important wins for both our adult A & B football teams last week. Well done to all involved. Castleknock Hurling and Football Club collected their €1000 cheque for the “Topaz Cash for Clubs” competition. A big thank you to all our Club Members and friends who collected cards in the Topaz cash for Clubs. Many thanks to all who attended our recent Clubhouse meeting.  Sincere thanks to all our fundraisers and grounds committee who have put in amazing efforts over the past months.  Also to all who have generously contributed towards the clubhouse.  We all need to push on now to make our clubhouse a reality. Our club camp takes place from the 17th to the 21st August and is structured to ensure a week of fun and friendships where children are coached in Gaelic Games.  The location is Tír na nÓg beside Castleknock Community College and all are very welcome. Our Senior hurlers had a busy week with a one point win over Naomh Mearnog mid-week and securing a draw with Kilmacud Crokes on Saturday evening. In Somerton Park this week, the second adult football team play St. Peregrines on Tuesday evening and the Seniors play Erin’s Isle on Wednesday evening. Well done to the second adult football team who beat St. Brigid’s to qualify for the Junior Championship semi-final. The Senior footballers continued their good league form by beating St. Mary’s on Saturday evening. Our Senior Ladies footballers had a great 3-6 to 1-11 win over Westmanstown in the Cup. Congrats to Niamh, Caoimhe, Aishling and Sarah who lined out for Dubs U16’s camogie team in the championship win against Antrim. Well done to all who represented the Club in the Inter County Hurling and Camogie Blitz’s over the weekend. Congratulations to Senior Footballer Stephen Lynch and his new bride Ciara Dempsey who were married on Friday last. It was a busy weekend for the club, with all events going very well. Well done to all those who took part in the Castleknock 5k on Sunday, and also to those who took part in the Golf Classic on Friday. Both events have raised some important funds for the club. It was also a great day out at the St. Mochta’s Parish Picnic for all of our members that attended, and a big thank you to everyone who helped out at all these events.And on the pitch it was also a good weekend, with our Féile Boys reaching the Semi Final of the All Ireland Hurling Tournament in Cork, and our Senior Footballers maintaining their position at the top of Division 2. Attention now turns to Hurling, with our Senior Hurlers at home to Erin’s Isle on Wednesday, and away to St. Sylvester’s on Saturday. The club would like to send their sincere condolences to the McCormack family on the death of Tom and Seamus’ father, Jim. Application forms for the Summer camps are now on the website. It was another great weekend of Féile action, with both boys hurling teams making it to their respective finals. Unfortunately, the Division 1 Final was lost to a very strong Ballyboden team in Parnell Park, but the Divison 6 Final was called off, and is now to be played this Saturday at 3:30 in Somerton. All support welcome for that. A big thank you also to everyone who helped out in Somerton on Saturday and made it such a success, despite the weather. And another huge game that requires everyone’s support is the first Senior Football Championship match in the club’s history. A massive congratulations to all players, mentors and everyone else involved in the Girls Football Féile team, who were crowned Division 2 Champions at the weekend. After a great performance in the group stages in Skerries on Saturday and in the Semi Final, the girls then finished the job in style against a tough Fingallians team in the Final on Sunday. The Senior Footballers continued their perfect start to the league with a good win against St. Anne’s last Sunday. The Adult Hurling League continues this weekend, with our Senior Hurlers playing Parnells on Sunday morning at 10:30 on Somerton. The Annual club Race Night will now take place in Kavanaghs this Friday. It is the big adult fundraiser of the year, and all support would be very appreciated. The first team had a good win away to Scoil Ui Chonnaill, while the second and third team were also victorious. The fourth team were unlucky to lose by a single point against Croi Ro Naofa. The club are hosting a 7s Tournament as Gaeilge on this Saturday in Somerton. With teams from all over the Dublin taking part in this competition, the games will be played entirely in Irish, to mark the beginning of Seachtain na Gaeilge. As part of this affiliation Clubs were asked to sell Pink laces for €5 a pair with €4.75 going to Breast Cancer Ireland. Just before Christmas the Juvenile Ladies of the Club raised €320 for this very worthy cause. Congratulations to Graham Hannigan who made his first start for the Dublin Senior Footballers against Maynooth in the O’Byrne Cup at the weekend. The Nursery returns to Somerton next Saturday at the usual time of 10am.
