Result: 0-12 to 3-6

On a lovely breezy evening in Drimnagh, Castleknock didn’t get the win they needed to make the quarter finals of the Junior A championship automically. It was a hard fought match with two sides who battled it out.

In the first half there were plenty of tussles and a bit of hurling as well. Gerry Mulryan opened scoring for Castleknock with a lovely point from the right wing. Good Counsel replied with 2 points from frees. A score from play from Mick Barry and a free by Derek Cormican left Castleknock in the lead again. Good Counsel responded with some direct running and a couple more points.

Mick Stokes was making good progress at centre forward and contributed a point.Ciaran O’Brien scored a lovely point from right corner forward.Oisin Liston ran onto a bouncing ball at full forward and as the goalkeeper came off his line, he batted the ball into the ground but it bounced for a point.

The second half started as the first with plenty of work being made for the hurley makers across Ireland. Good Counsel opened with a free from the right to bring the scores closer, then Derek Cormican scored again for Castleknock. Then Good Counsel fought back with goals in the 8th minute, 18th minute and 28th minute. The backs were under tremendous pressure and in the end, the pressure told with their 3 scrambling goals.

However, everytime a goal was scored by them, Castleknock kept battling and picked off some lovely points. Mick Stokes scored, Gerry Mulryan, Derek Cormican and Mick Barry all scored again. It was a credit to Castleknock as they never lost heart and kept scoring points. There was great spirit about Castleknock and they played good hurling.

This result means there’s a play off for the third spot in the group to go into the quarter final of the Junior A championship. Castleknock will definitely be meeting Good Counsel again and possibly Naomh Barrog. We look forward to meeting them again.
