(29 Apr 2014)
There were dramatic scenes at Lorcan O’Toole Park on Sunday at the division 2 Camogie Feile final where the destination of the title was decided in the dying seconds of the match. Raheny claimed the honours on the day when they found the back of the Castleknock net moments before the match referee called time on the thrilling encounter.
Balmy conditions greeted the teams at the Crumlin venue for what was a hotly contested final. This pairing were closely matched in the group stage so an entrailing contest was always on the cards.

Ciara Murray played her part in these early exchanges but had to wait until awarded two frees in quick succession to add to the Castleknock tally. With the west Dublin club three points to the good Raheny found their stride and Castleknock were called upon to produce some heroic defending.
Following a period of sustained pressure Raheny won a free which lead to a goal mouth scramble and the first goal of the game. The west Dublin girls piled on the pressure for the remainder of the half but the teams remained on level terms at half time.
After the break Raheny came out fighting and were rewarded with the first point of the second half. The tempo of the game increased with Eimear Griffin, Eve McCann and Sophie Browne involved in some of the more physical exchanges.
Castleknock’s Ciara Murray scored a further free to the level the match. The game now entered its most exciting phase with scoring chances for both sides. In the final minutes a Lauren Sheridan “45” defeated the Raheny ‘keeper leaving Castleknock three points clear and the Feile title within reach. Raheny then scored from a free to narrow the gap to two and in the final seconds Raheny launched an attack which saw a battle for the sliothar just feet from the Castleknock goal. Despite frantic defending from Castleknock the sliothar trickled over the line to give Raheny the narrowest of victories.
