Castleknock Cruise To Junior 2 Camogie Victory

(18 Aug 2020)

Castleknock 3-15 Skerries Harps 1-7

Scoring an impressive 2-15 from play Castleknock produced a skilful and well-organised display in this Junior 2 Camogie Championship match against Skerries Harps in Somerton this evening (Aug.18) to maintain their 100% record.

Other than for short periods in both halves Castleknock were always in control. Indeed by the time the first Water-Break was called the home team led by 1-4 0-0. Full-forward Eimear Stynes grabbed an opportunist goal on 4 minutes while three excellent Mollie Turner points from distance and a similar one form Emma McMenamin kept the scoreboard ticking over.

The second-quarter produced much of the same and even when Skerries looked like mounting a serious challenge Ebha Mooney in goals was well able for everything they could throw at her.

During that time Mollie Turner added another 1-1, the goal straight from a long range free. Emma Diamond also hit three huge points to leave Castleknock 2-9 0-2 ahead at the interval.

The entire Castleknock defence was on top throughout, with little getting past the half-back line and it wasn’t until the final minute of the game that Skerries scored their only point from play.

By then Castleknock had increased their total by another 1-6, the goal well taken by Siobhan Roche after some hard work by Eimear Stynes.

Emma Diamond fired over another three points to bring her total to six and Mollie Turner also scored three points to bring her total for the evening to 1-7, the half-forward line being responsible for 1-14 of the evening’s total.

Tiredness did set in but when required Castleknock always managed to raise their game to get the scores that mattered.

The vital last group game is next Tuesday against Na Fianna also in Somerton with the winner topping the group.
