Castleknock will be playing in Division 2 of the AHL next season.

Castleknock impressed from the outset when defeating a wasteful Clontarf by 1-20 to 0-14 in their Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 3 play-off decider at Somerton Park on Saturday evening.

The hosts enjoyed a 0-10 to 0-7 interval lead as Clontarf undermined their challenge with a series of poor wides, while, in contrast, the dead-ball prowess of Cian Boyle proved a key factor in Castleknock’s victory.

Boyle enjoyed a perfect record from frees and 65s, with every score that he converted adding nails to Clontarf’s coffin as the contest evolved.

The visitors were unfortunate to concede a scrappy goal in the early stages of the second half as the hosts pushed for home with two excellent points from influential centre-forward Conall Purcell.

Eoin Sawyer, Evan McSherry and Cian Ó Dúlaing ensured that dominance was maintained as they eased home with nine points to spare.

Elsewhere, Naomh Olaf preserved their AHL3 status when beating Kevins by 2-21 to 1-11.

AHL3 Promotion play-off: Castleknock 1-20 Clontarf 0-14.

AHL3 Relegation play-off: Naomh Olaf 2-21 Kevins 1-11.
