Parnells 6-6 v Castleknock 5-13

On the day that the Sam Maguire visited the Club our Under 13 Boy’s took a step closer to taking the top spot in Division 2 football . A large contingent of Castleknock supporters travelled to Parnell’s to see the boys win by a margin of four points in an exciting encounter with the Coolock based club. Bainisteoir and Sam Maguire “minder” for the day, Paul Warnock, together with Ger McCann guided the team to victory to set up league winning opportunity in two weeks time.

Spotting the keeper off his line Shane Carolan started the lads off smartly by lobbing the keeper to register the first goal of the game. Castleknock’s top scorer this season Darragh Warnock quickly followed with another goal and a point to give Castleknock a seven point lead. Goal specialists Parnell’s replied with two quick goals and a point to really make a match of it.

Aidan Kearney and Lennon Bracken registered further points in the first half with Ronan McCann consistent in his free taking. The home team made it a tight first half by matching the Castleknock scores and scoring the final goal of the first half to leave the margin at 2 points in our lads favour.

Parnell’s came out fighting after the break scoring a goal and point in the early stages but they were unprepared for dynamo Cian Corcoran who danced around the Parnell’s defence to score two goals. Meanwhile Darragh Warnock kept his point tally moving in a match that saw eight different Castleknock players get on the score sheet including Luke Gubbins and a very busy Ruari Cullen who caused lots of problems for the Parnell’s defence.

Chasing the game, Parnell’s threw the kitchen sink at it and caused a few problems for the west Dublin lads but they were unable to make some of their chances count. Well timed tackles from Luke Treacy and good reading of the game from Ciaran Murphy made life difficult for the opposition. The Castleknock defence soaked up attack after attack to deliver a well deserved victory.
