Castleknock U14 Hurlers overcome ‘Plunketts to guarantee Division 1 status

Castleknock 5-04 v St Oliver Plunketts 1-09.

Hot on the heels of the adult footballers semi-final success in Parnell Park on Friday night the U14 hurlers recorded their own “first” by booking their place in division 1 next year with a convincing win over league leaders St. Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh on Saturday 4th Oct.

Coming into the game unbeaten, ‘Plunketts opened the scoring, however the first of two goals from midfielder Darragh Hewson signalled the start of a goal fest for Castleknock. It was clear that the saying that “goals win matches” was taken to heart by the Castleknock lads. Further goals from Cian Corcoran and Luke Gubbins kept distance between the sides. A well taken point from Hugh Hogan and a goal from an unbelievably calm Sean Mealia put the matter beyond doubt.

Solid performances at the back repelled numerous Plunketts attacks with Castleknock’s Eoghan Lyons involved in a ding dong battle with Plunketts Sean Clerkin for the whole hour. Also amongst those who impressed was corner back Max Byrne who formed part of tenacious defence that restricted the visitors to long range points. Plunkett’s free taker Cillian Hayes was on form but goals were what the doctor ordered and these eluded a talented Plunkett’s side.

The final score at Porterstown: Castleknock 5-04 v St Oliver Plunketts 1-09.
