We’re really looking forward to welcoming the 500+  children from Castleknock GAA club to the Alive Outside Activity Centre in Killruddery this Sunday 2nd July.

As well as running through Killruddery’s stunning natural obstacles, including forests, meadows and streams, the children will tackle a number of our infamous obstacles, including Hell on Earth, Tyre Zone and The Ramp – so they are guaranteed to have one HELL of a Time! And don’t worry, if any of the children are not comfortable with ANY OBSTACLE, they can simply walk around it…please let them know this!

Here is all the info you need for the trip, which you can forward to parents if you require:

1. SPECTATORS / ADULT ACCESS

For Health & Safety reasons, there is limited Spectator Access to the course. For any coaches/mentors/adults that do attend, they can get involved as much or as little as they want…they can run alongside the children and help them if they need a hand getting over obstacles etc. Or they can watch the children start – and wait for them to finish 25-45 mins later.

2. PARKING

As the GAA club is going to be charged €5 per car, please car pool where possible – only arrive in Killruddery with a full car!  Here is the Google Map link to “HELL & BACK” – follow marshals instructions and signage: https://goo.gl/maps/ynhRtzfZSJTTvUgd8

Arrive in plenty of time please…at least 30 mins before your child’s scheduled start time!  The avenue in and out of Killruddery is used by pedestrians so please slow down and give way to pedestrians.

3. CONTACTS

If you have any last-minute issues on Sunday morning, here are two contacts

4. ACTIVITY SCHEDULE

6. WEATHER FORECAST

The weather forecast for Sunday is mild and dry around 15-17 degrees – but be prepared if it does rain!
Keep an eye on it via https://www.met.ie/weather-forecast/bray#forecasts

7. WHAT TO WEAR/BRING

  • Clothes – We recommend old, worn clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, as well as a warm change of clothes (hoody / tracksuit bottoms) for when they finish.
  • Footwear – Regarding footwear, trail runners / astro boots are best for grip.
  • Waiver Form – see above
  • Water
  • Packed lunch/treats
  • Sunscreen
8. COACH/MENTOR AT FINISH LINE

For Health & Safety reasons, children will not be allowed leave the Finish Line area without their coach/mentor present. Children may like to do a second (or if very keen third!) lap. They will be unable to do so though without coach/mentor permission (as above). If they want to go again, the coach/mentor should confirm with the marshal at the Finish Line that they consent to them doing a second lap and let them off!  Repeat if they want to do a third lap etc.

9. HEALTH & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Please make sure your child has a hearty meal before they arrive in Killruddery as they will need the energy for the run!  Children should store their personal belongings in a rucksack, which they can leave in a communal area. They should have a change of clothes / shoes with them.

Ensure everyone packs plenty of water to stay hydrated and any snacks they feel are needed – the children will be onsite for approx. 2 hours. The Order of Malta will onsite for the day to treat any cuts or bruises that may occur. Please make sure your child gets any injury treated by the trained First Aid staff in the Order of Malta ambulance before they leave the site. It is highly recommended that each child showers and changes clothes immediately after getting home. Wash all clothes thoroughly before further use. Make sure you are fully aware of the symptoms of Infectious Diseases. If your child experiences any symptoms, please contact your doctor immediately. Click here for more info.
