Code of Conduct

Castleknock Hurling and Football Club Code of Conduct is derived from and is guided by the GAA Code of Behaviour (Underage) which is available on our website and is endorsed by all organisations in the Gaelic Games family, it places particular emphasis on the following points.

Mentors

  • Be punctual and have the appropriate equipment for the session.
  • Have a positive, encouraging attitude.
  • Ensure that players are safely attired.
  • Ensure that there is at least one adult of the same gender for every 8 players. Do not take coaching sessions on your own.
  • Do not question the referee’s decision or integrity.
  • Be aware of any medical issues players have.
  • Only enter the field of play with the permission of the referee.
  • Only engage respectfully with opposition mentors and insist players respect officials and opponents.
  • Promote fair play.
  • Adhere to GAA safeguarding guidelines when dealing with children – e.g.
    meaningful playing time.
  • Never use foul or provocative language.
  • Contact underage players through their parents/ guardians only.
  • Follow club policy in all matters.
  • Engage with learning opportunities and statutory requirements
  • Value effort over results
Players
  • Be punctual, be appropriately attired and have the appropriate equipment.
  • Show respect to officials, opponents, teammates, and mentors.
  • Do not question the referee’s decision or integrity.
  • Play fairly, try your best and enjoy yourself.
  • Never use foul language.
  • Support your teammates always, especially if they make a mistake.
  • Be gracious in defeat and modest in victory.
  • Give Respect, Get Respect.
  • Inform your mentors in advance if you cannot attend training or a match, through your parents.

Parents

  • Make mentors aware of any medical issues your child has.
  • Adopt a positive attitude towards your child’s participation in our games.
  • Ensure that your child is punctual, is appropriately attired and has the
    appropriate equipment.
  • Respect the decision of the referee and encourage your child to do likewise.
  • Never enter the field of play without the permission of the referee.
  • Respect the mentors’ decisions. Raise any issues you may have in a constructive and non-confrontational manner at an appropriate time and place.
  • Show approval for effort, not just results.
  • Never use foul or provocative language.
Supporters
  • Encourage and applaud good performance from all players, regardless of the result.
  • Never use foul or provocative language.
  • Respect the decisions of the referee and other match officials.
  • Never enter the field of play.
  • Never criticise a player for making a mistake during games.
  • Show respect to your opponents – without them there would be no games.
