Junior A Football vs Ballyboden St. Endas
Sun, 4th November 2007
Result: 1-11 to 1-09

On Sunday last Nov 4th in Ballyboden, the Junior A footballers gained promotion for the second year in a row, courtesy of a 1-11 to 1-09 victory over the home side. The visitors put in a steady first half performance but failed to convert the majority of their opportunities into scores, leaving them three points ahead at the interval. The cobwebs seemed to have shaken off at the beginning of the second half when a flowing team movement, started by Alan Rafferty in the defence, found its way to the on rushing Paul Hughes who buried the ball into the top corner. Castleknock failed to gain possession from the resulting kick-out and Ballyboden showed great resilience in bagging a goal of their own, before pointing a free-kick to erase the deficit and make it all level.

Castleknock now had their backs to the wall and with promotion at stake, were in desperate need of a more tenacious approach in order to hold off the Boden attack. This came in the form of Ger O’Brien, who began sweeping up in the half back line with his characteristically hard-working style.

Stephen Lynch was brought out from the full forward line to aid midfield, where Donal Brady began to take a firm grip. Soon the inside boys, Tommy Corcoran, Gerry Kelly and Paul Hughes had the visitors back in front with some well taken scores. The full back line, marshalled by the ever impressive skipper, Paul Mulvihill, lifted their game in the last quarter to snuff out any chance of another comeback from the home team.

Paul Mulvihill on behalf of all the players thanked manager Willy Brennan along with the team coach Mick Marron, Pat McKeon and Sean Carolon for all their hard work. The team has now gained promotion in two consecutive seasons, displaying an impressive record of just two league losses in the past three years.
