Wed, 18th May 2005
Result: 1-13 to 0-04
Castleknock recorded a superb victory in the opening round of the Junior B Football Championship in Porterstown Park last Wednesday evening. Man of the match Barry Farrelly contributed 1-08 to the home team total ensuring a mouth watering second round clash awaits Willie Brennan’s men. In a tight first half the Castleknock defence led by Paul Mulvihill dominated their men and Farrelly converted several frees earned by a fast eager forward line.
Naomh Mearnog attempted to narrow the deficit early in the second half with two well taken points. However a Martin Griffin save off the line was soon followed by a move up the park with Farrelly finishing off to the net following great work by David Leydon, Declan Reilly and Stephen Lynch. Paddy O’Brien put the result beyond doubt with two fine individual efforts. An injured Gerry Kelly played with conviction through the painbarrier but sustained a broken arm in an unfortunate clash in the second half. The only blip on a memorable evening for the Castleknock supporters, selectors and team.
