Junior A Football vs O’ Tooles

Result: 2-14 to 2-8

A tough oul slog was how this game turned out for the Castleknock men in Porterstown on Sunday morning.

They needed all their experience and guile to withstand the resolute O’Toole’s challenge and managed to come off the ropes in the second half to earn a hard earned victory.

A couple of notable absentees, namely Donal Brady and Rory Corcoran, meant the line up was somewhat rejigged more than the team was used to but it is a credit to the players and the foresight of the management that they ground out the win.

The first half saw Castleknock post an impressive score of 2-9 with Nudie Hughes terrorising the O’Tooles defence and Eoghan O’Callaghan picking up where he left off with another high scoring performance. Both scored goals in the first half nearly bursting the net on each occasion and leaving the O’Tooles netminder with no chance.

Dec Reilly and Stevo Lynch in the middle had their hands full dealing with former county hurler Keith Wilson who was O’Tooles man of the match. In the backs the half back line of John McMenamin, Paul “the Bull” Mulvihill and Ger O’Brien were playing well while the quiet mouse Raftery kept everyone on their toes.

In the second half Castleknock hit the snooze button for some prolonged periods and a goal by O’Tooles got their dander up while down the other end Castleknock couldn’t buy a score. However they dug in deep and the strength of the panel was shown when Tommy Corcoran and Conor Deasy came on to kick insurance points and ensure that Castleknock maintained their 100% record in the league.
