Junior A Football vs Stars of Erin
Thu, 25th August 2005
Result: 3.14 to 1.07

Castleknock Junior footballers recorded a comfortable victory over Stars of Erin in this end of Summer Division 7 League clash in Porterstown Park. The home side got off to an excellent start with early scores coming from leading marksman Barry Farrelly and a fiery John Greene. Big catches from midfielders Stephen Lynch and Eoghan O’Callaghan ensured the action was concentrated in the visitors half. Stars after arriving late still appeared lost by the time the half time whistle blew.

Willie Brennan ensured the one-way traffic continued into the second half with some stern half time words. The Stars made some surging runs in the second half yielding a goal but many chances were badly wasted. With Eoghan O’Callaghan’s left foot in action it was an evening for high scoring and a wide spread of scores among the forwards indicates a team on form.

The backs were as solid as ever with the Denis Lally and Bull Mulvihill being particularly impressive. Upfront Paddy Molloy made many strong runs contributing to a flowing attack while John Greene was the star of the show (making up for his native county’s disappointing exit in the Tommy Murphy cup earlier in the week) [Ed. Note: Roscommon will rise to the top again like they did in 1943 and 1944]. Ballyboden on Sunday won’t be as easy but it is building nicely for a big climax to a long hard season for the Knock.
