Castleknock (B) 1-11 Ballinteer St. Johns 2-08
Ballinteer came to Porterstown fielding a strong team against Castleknock on Sunday last in near perfect conditions for football. Castleknock started of well with an excellent goal form Cathal McDaniel. It took Ballinteer 20 minutes to get off the mark with a brace of points. The home side continued to press forward, with the superior fitness enabling them to add more scores before the break for Cathal McDaniel & Rory Doogan and Mick (Aussie) Connor. Another flowing move which started from the defence almost resulted in another goal, but Castleknock remained ahead at half time by 1-3 to 0-5.
The second half started of well for the home side and within 10 minutes Castleknock went further ahead with points from Rory Doogan and J.P Corkery, however Ballinteer came fighting back in the game with a goal, to set up an exciting finish. A high ball into the Castleknock goal mouth caused confusion between the two Paddy’s and ended up in the back of the Castleknock net and put the visitors 1 point to the good. This goal however seemed to inspire Castleknock and with the “Denn Trio” Gaffney, Galligan and McGinnel working hard in defence the pressure was back on the Ballinteer goal. This pressure eventually resulted in a free in for Castleknock and up stepped Rory Doogan to slot over and give Castleknock a share of the points.
