Castleknock 0-14 Thomas Davis 4-15
A flat Castleknock performance including the concession of four goals in the first 16 minutes meant that this Senior 1 Football Cup match against Thomas Davis in Somerton this evening (Sept.3) was effectively over as a contest as early as the first Water-Break when the visitors already led by twelve points.
Right from the throw-in Thomas Davis brought a level of intensity to the game that Castleknock simply could not match indeed after just nine minutes Thomas Davis, Castleknock’s conquerors in the 2019 Dublin SFC Quarter-Final, led by 2-4 0-0.
Ciarán Kilkenny playing in the full-forward line then came to the fore for Castleknock. His first point came from a free ten minutes into the game before with a superb pass he set up Conor Chawke for a fine fisted point.
At the Water-Break Thomas Davis led by 3-5 0-2 adding a fourth goal almost immediately after the resumption of play. Ciarán Kilkenny then scored three more points, two frees and one from play after he was put through by a terrific Kevin Kindlon pass.
Between then and half-time Castleknock added another three points, through Ben Galvin, Ciarán Kilkenny (his fifth) and Gerard McDermottroe to leave Castleknock trailing at the break by 14 points, 0-8 4-10.
On a rare positive note Castleknock won the second-half by 0-6 0-5 holding Thomas Davis scoreless for the last 18 minutes but of course the real damage had been done long before that.
Lively substitute Tommy McDaniel hit four second-half points, his second from out on the right one of the scores of the evening. Hard working full-forward Gerard McDermottroe was rewarded with two points of his own to round off an extremely disappointing evening for Castleknock.
West Dublin was lit up a number of times during the evening by a huge fireworks display but unfortunately as far as the Castleknock footballers were concerned the whole evening was a bit of a damp squib and best forgotten quickly. This team can and will produce much better.
