Ballyboden St Enda’s 2-12 v Castleknock 4-12
On Saturday last 13th Sept, Castleknock footballers took a step closer to securing a coveted league semi-final spot in their first year in division one. A match up with current Dublin Feile Title holders Ballyboden St Enda’s ended in victory for the Castleknock boys by a margin of 6 points.
Spectators at Sancta Maria were in for an entertaining game that saw 30 scores including 6 goals and a host of fine performances up and down the pitch. Cian Corcoran was the first of seven Castleknock players to record a score with a well taken point after 20 seconds. However, goals at vital stages in the game, and solid defending by the west Dublin boys was to be the difference between the sides at the final whistle.
Early goals from Corcoran and Darragh Warnock were matched by ‘Boden as both teams also traded points in the early stages. A goal from David McInerney just before half time and another from a busy Lennon Bracken just after the break forced the home team into the hunt for goals. Despite sustained pressure the Southsiders were forced to take poor opportunities and the Castleknock net remained intact for the rest of the game.
Also amongst those who impressed was Aidan Kearney whose trademark high fielding set up numerous attacks for Castleknock. Ciarán Murphy led an industrious defence which kept the opposition at bay in the final minutes to record 4-12 to 2-12 victory.
